N7470 is the first Boeing 747 ever built. Assigned MSN 20235, Line Number RA001, it rolled out at Everett on September 30, 1968, and completed its maiden flight on February 9, 1969 — with Boeing Chief Test Pilot Jack Waddell at the controls. Fitted with four Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7A turbofans, the prototype accumulated roughly 5,300 flight hours across approximately 12,000 test flights before Boeing donated it to the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field, Seattle, on April 6, 1995. Restored to like-new condition in 2014, it remains on outdoor static display as the sole surviving example of the original prototype configuration.

Livery & Visual Details

The model wears the prototype "City of Everett" livery: white fuselage with a continuous red cheat line running nose to tail, red nose cone tip, and vertical "747" lettering on the fin's red leading-edge stripe. The forward fuselage carries a dense cluster of small airline logos — Japan Airlines, Pan Am, Lufthansa, Aer Lingus, TWA, Qantas, and others — replicating the customer showcase as rolled out in 1968. Wings are light grey; four JT9D nacelles are metallic silver with dark fan faces. Classic straight wingtips with no winglets.
