1:400 Diecast: Air Niugini Airbus A300B4 P2-ANG "Bird of Paradise" (YU YU30003)
P2-ANG is an Airbus A300B4-203, MSN 134, operated by Air Niugini from 27 November 1984 to 16 June 1989 — the airline's five-year wide-body chapter on international routes from Port Moresby. The aircraft arrived at Air Niugini leased from Trans Australia Airlines (where it wore VH-TAA), and it represented the Raggiana Bird of Paradise livery that Air Niugini introduced in 1984. Air Niugini operated two A300s during this period; P2-ANG was the first.
Livery & Visual Details
The model presents the Raggiana Bird of Paradise scheme: a white upper fuselage transitioning through a light purple band into a vibrant orange mid-section and deep reddish-brown belly — a colour gradient unique to Air Niugini in this era. A large, multi-coloured Bird of Paradise illustration spans the forward fuselage. "air niugini" prints in bold black on the white vertical stabilizer, with a small red-and-black abstract tribal motif at the fin tip. Registration "P2-ANG" sits on the rear fuselage below the windows. The A300B4 carries classic raked wingtips and two smooth-nozzle turbofan engines under a gently swept wing.
Model Craft & Collectibility
YU item YU30003 captures one of aviation's most visually distinctive Pacific Island liveries in 1:400 scale. The Air Niugini A300B4-203 operated only five years, from 1984 to 1989, before the type left the fleet — giving P2-ANG a defined and well-documented historical window that no future release can replicate.
