Tail number 30000 designates the first of two Boeing VC-25B aircraft being built as the next-generation presidential transport for the United States Air Force, replacing the aging VC-25A fleet (tail numbers 28000 and 29000) that entered service in 1990. The VC-25B program is based on the Boeing 747-8 airframe — a longer, more fuel-efficient successor to the 747-200B platform of the current Air Force One. Boeing holds a contract signed in 2018 to convert two 747-8 airframes for the 89th Airlift Wing. Aircraft #30000 entered depot modification and was the lead conversion airframe in the program.
