1:200 Diecast: Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-412 9V-SPK "Tropical" (SQ Wings L2001)

9V-SPK (MSN 28023, line number 1099) first flew on 12 January 1997 and was delivered to Singapore Airlines on 21 January 1997. The aircraft carried the "Tropical Megatop" special livery — unveiled in September 1998 to promote the airline's new First and Business Class cabin products. Only two 747s wore this scheme: 9V-SPK and its sister 9V-SPL. On 31 October 2000, 9V-SPK was operating as flight SQ006 from Taipei Chiang Kai-shek International Airport when it entered a closed runway under construction and struck equipment, destroying the aircraft. 9V-SPL was returned to standard livery shortly after. The SQ Wings L2001 model preserves the only 747-400 to carry this livery and be lost.

Livery & Visual Details

The "Tropical" livery transforms the entire fuselage into a mural of tropical scenery. The upper fuselage is deep dark blue, transitioning through blues and teals into golden yellow mid-fuselage, and warm oranges and reds on the lower fuselage and belly. The design incorporates stylized palm trees, abstract sun motifs, flowing wave patterns, and silhouettes associated with the Singapore Girl figure. "SINGAPORE AIRLINES" appears in white on the upper forward fuselage followed by a small Singapore flag. The tail fin is deep dark blue with the golden Silver Kris bird logo — the stylized crane with wings swept gracefully backward. The aircraft carries blended winglets tipped in dark blue, with four engines in silver-gray nacelles. The 747-412 subtype uses PW4056 engines.

Model Craft & Collectibility

SQ Wings L2001, produced at 1:200 scale, is a full diecast metal model with magnetic landing gear and detailed antenna array. The "Tropical" livery is among the most visually complex ever applied to a 747; combined with the historical significance of flight SQ006, this model represents a subject that cannot be replicated in standard Singapore Airlines production. This is a 2025–2026 release.
