Registration B-2173 (MSN 48497, Line 512) was delivered to China Eastern Airlines on 1 October 1992 as a passenger MD-11. In December 1999 it was converted to freighter configuration and continued flying for China Cargo Airlines as B-2173 before eventually transferring further. The aircraft holds the distinction of appearing in accident investigation records: on 6 April 1993, an inadvertent in-flight slat deployment incident was documented at low cycle count. MSN 48497 later re-registered as N952AR with Sky Lease Cargo.

Livery & Visual Detail

The model captures B-2173 in China Eastern Airlines passenger livery. White fuselage with a three-stripe cheatline: red at top, thin gold in the middle, wider blue at the bottom, running from the red nose cone to the tail. "CHINA EASTERN" in blue capitals on the aft fuselage. Chinese characters reading "Zhongguo Dongfang Hangkong" appear in red on the forward fuselage above the window line. Registration B-2173 printed in black below the aft window line. Vertical stabilizer is white with the China Eastern swoosh logo. Upward-curving white winglets on main wings each carry a small China Eastern logo. Tri-jet configuration: two wing-mounted engines plus one engine integrated into the base of the vertical stabilizer, all in light-grey nacelles with metallic intake rings.

The MD-11 is one of the most architecturally complex trijet moulds in the 1:200 collector market, with the centre-engine integration into the vertical stabilizer demanding precision mould work. China Eastern's early-1990s passenger MD-11 livery is a historically significant configuration seldom modelled at this scale.
