1:400 Diecast: TAAG Angola Airlines Boeing 787-9 D2-TEQ "50 Anos" (Phoenix PH11992)
D2-TEQ (MSN 66877, Line 1128) touched down at Luanda's newly opened Dr. Agostinho Neto International Airport on January 29, 2025 — becoming TAAG Angola Airlines' first Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the flag carrier's most capable widebody to date. Leased from AerCap and financed through a consortium led by Afreximbank, the aircraft arrived just days before Angola's Liberation Day on February 4. It entered revenue service on April 5, 2025, replacing aging Boeing 777-200ER widebodies on TAAG's long-haul network. Prior to TAAG delivery, D2-TEQ completed pre-delivery test flights under the Boeing test registration N8572C out of Everett, Washington.
Livery & Visual Detail
The model wears TAAG's redesigned livery introduced alongside the 787 program. The fuselage is white; the rear fuselage, vertical stabilizer, and horizontal stabilizers carry a bold red-to-orange gradient that dissolves into the white fuselage through a pixelated dot-fade pattern. The tail displays TAAG's iconic orange disc with the black Palanca Negra Gigante silhouette — the Giant Sable Antelope, Angola's national symbol. On the forward fuselage near the cockpit, a prominent "50º ANIVERSÁRIO" sticker in red commemorates Angola's 50th anniversary of independence. The Angolan national flag appears on the rear fuselage above the window line. Engine nacelles are white with silver intake rings and carry the TAAG logo in red on the outboard face. Wing tips are the 787's characteristic composite raked tips — no winglets, no sharklets.
Model Craft & Collector Notes
Cast in diecast metal alloy by Phoenix Models, PH11992 captures TAAG's first 787 delivery livery — a one-aircraft livery at the time of this model's release, given D2-TEQ was the sole 787 in the fleet when Phoenix announced the tooling. Phoenix's 787-9 mould replicates the Dreamliner's compound-curve composite fuselage cross-section and the raked composite wingtip geometry. The model measures 19.18 cm in length and 17.95 cm in wingspan at 1:400 scale.
