1:400 Diecast: Delta Air Lines Boeing 747-100 N9896 (Phoenix PH04539)

N9896 carries a specific entry in the 747's production ledger: MSN 19896, Line Number 1, the first Boeing 747 ever delivered to Delta Air Lines. Boeing handed over the aircraft on October 2, 1970, flown into Atlanta by Delta Vice President of Flight Operations Capt. T.P. "Pre" Ball. Three weeks later, on October 24, Georgia Governor Lester G. Maddox christened her "Georgia Belle" at a dedication ceremony in Atlanta. She wore the internal designation Ship 101. In September 1974 N9896 returned to Boeing, later cycling through Pan American and Pacific International before ending her operational days at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon—one of fewer than a handful of 747-100s still physically accessible to the public.

Livery & Visual Detail

The model captures Delta's classic "Widget Era" red, white, and blue livery as worn by the aircraft in its Delta service years. A bold dark blue cheatline bands the window row, flanked by thin red accent stripes; the forward fuselage carries the "DELTA" wordmark in dark blue beneath the cockpit. The vertical stabilizer presents the angled blue-and-red tail stripe arrangement synonymous with Delta's pre-Widget identity. Four engine nacelles are white with the Delta mark on each. Classic non-winglet tips mark the wing ends, appropriate to the 747-100 variant.

Model Craft & Collector Value

Phoenix produces this 1:400 diecast under item number PH04539. The tooling replicates the 747-100's shorter upper-deck profile and absence of winglets, distinguishing it from the 747-400 mold. As the sole Phoenix release dedicated to Ship 101 in a classic Delta livery, it covers a historically unrepeatable registration tied to Delta's 747 debut.
