1:400 Diecast: Airbus House Colors A340-200 F-WWBA "The World Ranger" (Phoenix Models PH12000)
F-WWBA is the Airbus A340-200 prototype, MSN 004. The airframe completed its first flight on 1 April 1992 as part of the A340 certification campaign. In June 1993, this aircraft — dubbed "The World Ranger" — flew nonstop from Paris Le Bourget to Auckland and back, covering 19,277 km westbound in 21 hours and 32 minutes, setting a world record for a commercial jet. Only 28 A340-200s were built before production closed, making the prototype especially significant within the type's history.
Livery & Visual Details
The model carries Airbus's house colours demonstrator scheme. The fuselage is white with a tri-colour gradient stripe — yellow, orange, and red — running along the lower fuselage from mid-section to tail. The vertical stabilizer is dark blue with "A340" in white and a matching gradient vertical bar. On the right fuselage, "THE WORLD RANGER" appears in bold red capital letters. A large dark blue "A340" title is printed on the mid-fuselage below the window line. Four CFM56-5C engine nacelles are white with dark fan blades visible at intake. The wings carry blended winglets in light grey.
Model Craft & Collectibility
Phoenix Models PH12000 presents the A340-200 prototype in 1:400 diecast metal. The World Ranger livery's gradient stripe transitions and the bold fuselage text are the key printing challenges at this scale. As the only quadjet long-range Airbus demonstrator to hold a city-pair distance record, F-WWBA occupies a unique place in A340 model collecting. A short-run release now listed as discontinued at major retailers.
