1:400 Diecast: Air Canada Airbus A340-541 C-GKOM "Toothpaste" (Phoenix PH12002)

C-GKOM, MSN 464, first flew on 28 March 2003 and was delivered to Air Canada on 29 June 2004 — making it the carrier's first Airbus A340-500. It carried fleet number 952 and was configured in a C42 Y225 two-class layout. Air Canada operated only two A340-500s, both briefly, as a premium ultra-long-range tool on Pacific and North Atlantic thin routes. C-GKOM was retired from Air Canada service on 1 December 2007 and later transferred to TAM Linhas Aéreas as PT-MSL, where it continued flying under the same MSN 464 identity. The four Rolls-Royce Trent 553-61 engines each rated at 53,000 lbf give the A340-541 a range exceeding 16,000 km — no fuel stop, no auxiliary tanks needed.

Livery & Visual Details

This model captures C-GKOM in Air Canada's early 2000s "Toothpaste" livery — so named for the horizontal red-and-white pinstripe band running the full length of the lower fuselage, flanked above by the grey upper barrel. "Air Canada" titles appear in bold red along the forward fuselage. The tail carries the red maple leaf logo on a white field. The A340-541's long fuselage and pronounced under-belly fuel tank fairing are clearly visible at 1:400. Wing tips feature the classic raked design standard to the A340-500/600. Four engine nacelles under the swept wing display the characteristic Trent 500 inlet diameter.

Model Craft & Collectability

Phoenix PH12002 is a diecast metal model released in mid-2025, the first new-tool Air Canada A340-500 in 1:400 in over a decade. The model measures 16.95 cm (length) × 15.93 cm (wingspan). Air Canada's A340-500 programme was a short two-aircraft fleet, meaning subjects in this livery are limited — both aircraft wore "Toothpaste" markings for only a portion of their Air Canada career. C-GKOL (MSN 445), the second airframe, is the only alternative registration available at this scale.
