1:400 Diecast: Air Canada Airbus A340-500 C-GKOL (Phoenix PH12048)
C-GKOL, MSN 445, was delivered to Air Canada on July 27, 2004, entering the carrier's ultra-long-haul operation connecting Toronto with Hong Kong and other transpacific and transatlantic destinations. Air Canada operated a small A340-500 fleet for routes where twin-engine ETOPS constraints still applied. On November 25, 2007, C-GKOL left the Air Canada fleet and transferred to Brazil's TAM Airlines as PT-MSN, where it flew until storage in October 2011. The airframe was scrapped in Brazil in August 2015.
Livery & Visual Details
The model reproduces Air Canada's "Frosted Leaf" scheme of the 2004 era: white fuselage, "AIR CANADA" in red text mid-cabin, a red stylised maple leaf on the nose below the cockpit. The vertical tail is black, carrying a bold red maple leaf. Four Rolls-Royce Trent 553 engines in white nacelles hang two per wing. The A340-500's raked wingtips — swept backward at the tip rather than fitted with upturned winglets — are reproduced at the wingtip. Rolling gear visible.
Model Craft & Collectability
Phoenix PH12048 documents C-GKOL in its Air Canada configuration at 1:400. The A340-500 was produced in smaller quantities than the -300, and Air Canada operated only a handful; combined with the type's retirement from most fleets, this model records a now-vanished configuration. Diecast alloy.
