5A-ONH (MSN 1043, A330-202) was delivered to Afriqiyah Airways on 1 October 2009 from Toulouse. Powered by two General Electric CF6-80E1A4 engines, the aircraft operated Libya-Europe routes until it was eventually stored and written off — giving this airframe a relatively short service history with a carrier that itself has operated intermittently amid Libya's political instability since 2011.

Livery & Visual Details

The fuselage is white throughout. On the forward fuselage, below the cockpit, "AFRIQIYAH" appears in bold black sans-serif type, with the airline's Arabic name "الأفريقية" above it in matching black. The registration "5A-ONH" and a Libyan flag decal sit on the lower rear fuselage. The tail design is the defining feature: a black vertical stabilizer carrying two overlapping large stylized "9"s — one in bright green, the other segmented in red, yellow, and light blue — referencing Afriqiyah's founding year context. The same "99" motif is reproduced on the outer face of both black engine nacelles, with metallic silver intake lips. The wingtips are standard A330-200 winglets with a black-tipped upper edge. The wing undersurfaces are natural metallic grey.

Model Craft & Collectability

Phoenix cast PH12062 in diecast alloy at 1:400 alongside 5A-ONG (PH12061) as a two-piece Afriqiyah A330 set. Afriqiyah remains one of the more uncommon North African carriers in 1:400 scale, and the "99" tail livery is visually distinct from anything else in a display case. With 5A-ONH now written off, no further production on this registration is expected.
