1:400 Diecast: Iran Air Boeing 747SP-86 EP-IAC "Fars" (NG Models NG07041)
EP-IAC (MSN 21093, line number 307) first flew on 16 May 1977 and was delivered to Iran Air on 27 May 1977 as a Boeing 747SP-86 — the stretched-range, shortened-fuselage variant built specifically for ultra-long nonstop operations. Named "Fars" after the historic Persian province, this airframe became one of the most operationally documented 747SPs in the world. In January 2004, EP-IAC suffered a nose-gear collapse on landing at Beijing Capital Airport; the aircraft was grounded, ferried back to Tehran, and completed a full D-Check before returning to service in 2010. EP-IAC operated what is widely recorded as the last scheduled commercial passenger service by any Boeing 747SP when it flew flight IR815 from Kuala Lumpur to Tehran on 11 June 2016. The aircraft made its final flight — a ferry positioning move — on 23 May 2018 and now rests in storage at Tehran Mehrabad Airport (THR).
Livery & Visual Details
The fuselage is white. "IranAir" appears in dark blue capital lettering forward of the wing, preceded by a small Iranian flag. Below the cockpit in Persian script: "هواپیمایی جمهوری اسلامی ایران". The registration "EP-IAC" is stenciled on the rear fuselage and on the wing underside. The tail carries Iran Air's dark blue Homa (griffin mythological bird) emblem on a white field, with "AC" highlighted in a dark blue block below the logo. Small Homa roundels appear on each engine nacelle. The 747SP's visually distinctive shorter upper deck and abbreviated tail fairing are captured in the tooling. Wingtips are classic raked tips standard to the SP variant.
Model Craftsmanship & Collector Notes
NG Models released NG07041 in January–February 2025 at 1:400 scale. The 747SP-86 tooling faithfully renders the SP's compressed fuselage length relative to the standard 747 and the enlarged vertical stabilizer required to compensate for the reduced side-area. EP-IAC is the single most documented 747SP hull; its 2004 Beijing incident and status as the type's last commercial operator give it significant historic weight within the 747SP collecting niche.
