1:400 Diecast: PLAAF Xian Y-20 Kunpeng 20240 (NG Models NG22021)

Serial 20240 belongs to the 37th Air Transport Regiment, based at Kaifeng, Henan, and has accumulated one of the highest documented overseas profiles of any PLAAF Y-20 airframe. In April 2022 the aircraft joined the multi-ship Y-20 formation that delivered FK-3 surface-to-air missile systems to Serbia — the longest-range logistical mission publicly documented for the type, routing across multiple waypoints to reach Belgrade. The same airframe visited Innsbruck in February 2023 to transport Chinese military athletes competing in the Edelweiss Assault exercise. The Y-20 Kunpeng first flew on 26 January 2013 and entered PLAAF service in 2016, powered by four Soloviev D-30KP-2 turbofans on the A-standard airframes; its wingspan reaches approximately 50 metres.

Livery & Visual Detail

The model carries the standard PLAAF low-visibility scheme: an overall matte dark grey-blue finish with no high-contrast markings. Leading edge strips on wings and engine intake lips are rendered in polished silver. The PLAAF roundel — a white five-pointed star — appears on the upper starboard wing and vertical stabilizer. The Chinese national flag is positioned at the top of the vertical stabilizer, port side. Serial "20240" is stenciled in white on the lower tail. Yellow warning and service stencils are applied around the cockpit and wing roots. The four D-30KP-2 nacelles, mounted under a high-mounted wing, each carry silver inlet rings.

NG Models NG22021 was released in August 2022. The model features three-dimensional antenna masts on the fuselage spine — a detail that distinguishes it from earlier Y-20 releases — and rolling rubber-tyred main and nose gear. Serial 20240's independently confirmed intercontinental flight record gives this specific airframe a collector story that goes well beyond a generic military scheme.
