1:400 Diecast: U.S. Navy Boeing C-40A Clipper 165829 "City of Dallas" VR-59 (JC Wings XX40075)

BuNo 165829 (MSN 29979, line number 496) was delivered to the United States Navy on 23 December 2000 — one of the early C-40A Clipper airframes, the Navy's 737-700C variant procured to replace aging C-9B Skytrain IIs in fleet logistics and fleet readiness support roles. The aircraft initially served with Fleet Logistics Support Squadron VR-59 "The Lone Star Gunners" at NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas, carrying the name "City of Dallas." Following the September 11 attacks, 165829 was temporarily renamed "Spirit of New York City." The airframe later transferred to VR-58 "The Sunseekers" at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, where it was renamed "City of Jacksonville." Engines are CFM56-7B22.

Livery & Visual Details

White fuselage with a dark blue cheatline running below the cabin windows from nose to tail. "UNITED STATES NAVY" is painted in dark blue above the cheatline on the forward cabin. Below the cockpit, "829" is stenciled in large dark figures on the nose, alongside the squadron code "VR-59" and "CITY OF FORT WORTH" text visible on the model — reflecting the early VR-59 assignment and naming convention for the squadron's home station. A gold-colored unit crest appears below the navy legend. A small American flag marks the upper rear fuselage. The tail displays the squadron code letters in large dark blue, with the bureau number "S829" below. Wingtips feature blended winglets. Engine nacelles are light gray.

Model Craftsmanship & Collector Notes

JC Wings released XX40075 in 2024 at 1:400 scale in diecast metal. The C-40A/737-700 tooling captures the blended winglets and CFM56 nacelles at this smaller scale with antenna detail included. U.S. Navy C-40 Clipper subjects are a niche collector segment — civil-derived military transports with operational histories that cross multiple base assignments, squadron affiliations, and naming changes make individual bureau number tracking particularly rewarding for military aviation collectors.
