1:200 Diecast: Thai Airways Boeing 737-400 HS-TDD (JC Wings). This aircraft has lived several lives. Delivered to Thai Airways on July 10, 1992, HS-TDD carried the name "Chumphon"—a province in southern Thailand—giving it a quiet local connection as it worked domestic routes for over a decade. For an aircraft that spent most of its career on short hops, its story turns out to be surprisingly eventful.
The Nok Air years: In 2006, HS-TDD was transferred to Nok Air, Thai's low-cost offshoot, while still wearing Thai colours with an "Operated by Nok Air" sticker. On February 5, 2006, operating as Nok Air flight DD7506 from Bangkok to Phuket, it reached 1,500 feet when an unusual noise came from the right wing. The engine lost power, the crew turned back, and during landing at Don Mueang, brake issues sent the aircraft off the runway onto a grassy area near the golf course between runways 21L and 21R. All 110 passengers and five crew evacuated via slides; two passengers sustained minor injuries. The aircraft itself was undamaged. It's a testament to 737-400 ruggedness—and good flying—that it flew again.
Later life and surprising retirement: HS-TDD returned to Thai Airways but was stored at Utapao by January 2017. By 2018, Thai's narrowbody operations had ended entirely. But that's not where the story stops. Today, HS-TDD rests at Coffee War Station 331, a café near Utapao airport, where aviation enthusiasts can visit it and even have a meal next to a retired 737.
About the model: JC Wings' 1:200 release captures HS-TDD in its classic Thai Airways livery—white fuselage, purple cheatline, and that distinctive golden tail with the Thai silk pattern. The model features diecast metal construction and detailed CFM56-3 engines with rubber tyres on the landing gear. At 18.23 cm long, it's a substantial piece with proper heft. A display stand is included for those who prefer to showcase it in a flying attitude.
One to note: This registration appears on some retailers as a 1:400 release as well, so the 1:200 version is worth distinguishing. For collectors interested in Thai aviation, Nok Air history, or aircraft with genuine incident stories that ended well, HS-TDD ticks multiple boxes.
