1:400 Diecast: Thai Airways ATR 72-200 HS-TRA (JC Wings). Delivered to Thai Airways in 1990 (MSN 164), this ATR 72-201 was the first of its kind for the airline, operating short-haul routes from Bangkok to secondary cities across Thailand . For nearly fifteen years, it shuttled passengers on routes like Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son—a challenging approach that requires skilled flying through mountainous terrain .

August 8, 2004: Operating as Thai Airways flight TG198 from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son with 32 people on board, HS-TRA experienced a nose gear collapse during landing at Mae Hong Son Airport . The aircraft was substantially damaged but all 32 occupants escaped without injury. The aircraft was repaired and returned to service—a testament to the ruggedness of the ATR design .

Later years: After its Thai Airways career ended, HS-TRA was transferred to Thai Air Force, continuing its service in military colours . The ATR 72-200 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW124B turboprops, seating up to 74 passengers with a range of 1,525 km .

About this model: JC Wings released HS-TRA (item JCLH4239) in 1:400 scale featuring Thai Airways' 1990s livery—white fuselage, purple cheatline, and golden tail with the Thai silk pattern . At 6.8 cm long with a 6.77 cm wingspan, it includes the antenna detail noted on the packaging. For collectors of Asian regional aircraft, ATR variants, or aircraft with documented incident histories that ended safely, this represents the first ATR in Thai's fleet—an aircraft that survived a gear collapse and kept flying.
