1:400 Diecast: SAS McDonnell Douglas MD-90 LN-ROB "Johan Viking" (JC Wings LH4394)

LN-ROB was delivered to Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) on 21 December 1996, carrying constructor number 53462/2149. Named "Johan Viking" — part of SAS's tradition of christening aircraft after Norse figures — the MD-90-30 operated on intra-European routes from Scandinavian hubs throughout its SAS career. The aircraft retired from SAS service on 1 March 2006 and was sold to Hello AG, re-registered HB-JIF. The MD-90 itself was discontinued in 2000 after 116 deliveries, and SAS was among its most prominent European operators, making surviving models of this type increasingly sought.

Livery & Visual Details

"SCANDINAVIAN" runs in dark lettering along the upper forward fuselage. The name "JOHAN VIKING" appears in italic script below the cockpit. The registration LN-ROB is printed mid-fuselage beneath the cabin windows, accompanied by a row of small flag badges representing the Scandinavian nations SAS serves. A diagonal rainbow stripe — bands of red, orange, yellow, and blue — decorates the nose section below the flight deck. The SAS logo in sweeping italic letterforms occupies the vertical stabilizer in dark blue. Two IAE V2525-D5 engines are rear-mounted, visible at the tail in classic MD-90 twin-rear configuration. Wingtips are classic raked, without winglets.

JC Wings' 1:400 MD-90 mould accurately reproduces the rear-engine T-tail profile that distinguishes it from contemporary wing-engined 737s and A320s. Dimensions: 11.63 cm / 4.54 in length, 8.22 cm / 3.21 in wingspan.
