VH-EBU is a Boeing 747-338 (MSN 23223, Line Number 606) that first flew December 21, 1984, and was delivered to Qantas on January 24, 1985 — the 26th Boeing 747 accepted by the carrier. Originally named "City of Sydney," the airframe was repainted in November 1995 in the iconic "Nalanji Dreaming" Aboriginal art livery, marking the airline's 75th anniversary. "Nalanji" derives from the Aboriginal word for "our place." VH-EBU retired to storage at Avalon in February 2005 and was scrapped in June 2023 after nearly four decades of service.

Livery & Visual Details

The Nalanji Dreaming scheme covers the entire fuselage with an intricate Aboriginal artwork in blues, teals, reds, yellows, and oranges — motifs include stylized marine creatures, dotwork circles representing waterholes, and flowing lines evoking the Australian landscape. The upper vertical stabilizer is red with the white Qantas kangaroo logo. "QANTAS" in white runs along the forward fuselage. Each of the four RB211 engine nacelles carries a small red kangaroo on the pod side. The wing upper surfaces are metallic grey. The 747-300's extended upper deck is a defining visual indicator: longer than the 747-200 but without the winglets and distinctive winglet tips of the 747-400. Classic straight wingtips.

Model Craft & Collectability

JC Wings XX20374 at 1:200 must accurately reproduce a multi-color hand-illustrated design shrunk to model scale — one of the most technically demanding liveries in Australian aviation history to replicate. The 747-300 tooling correctly omits the winglets seen on 747-400 models. This release captures VH-EBU in the 1995 blue-dominant version of the Nalanji Dreaming scheme.
