1:200 Diecast: Kalitta Air Boeing 747-400BCF N744CK "COVID Mask" (JC Wings XX20120A)

N744CK carries MSN 26353, first delivered to Japan Airlines on 7 June 1993 as passenger 747-446 registered JA8909. Boeing converted the airframe to BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter) configuration at Xiamen TAECO in 2006, with the converted aircraft re-entering service on 18 December 2006. Kalitta Air acquired the freighter in December 2010. In February 2021, maintenance crews at Oscoda, Michigan painted a blue surgical face mask across the aircraft's nose radome — the first aircraft in the United States to wear such a livery.

Livery & Visual Details

The model reproduces the COVID mask livery in its 2021 application. A white fuselage carries a broad red cheatline with a parallel gold stripe running from nose to tail, both continuing across the horizontal stabilizer tips. "KALITTA AIR" appears in bold black on the forward upper fuselage; registration N744CK in black on the rear fuselage. The nose radome is painted sky blue, replicating the surgical mask with moulded pleat contours. The vertical stabilizer features the red-and-gold Kalitta "K" design. Raked wingtips carry the house colors. The 747-400BCF's four white engine nacelles are retained without modification. The model is configured with flaps down and landing gear extended, matching the aircraft's approach configuration.

Model Craft & Collectability

Produced by JC Wings under item XX20120A at 1:200 scale in diecast metal. The COVID mask livery was removed from N744CK around December 2022, making any model capturing the original nose art a document of a specific 22-month period in the airframe's service history. The flaps-down gear-down configuration is an additional variation distinguishing this release from standard cruise-pose 747 models.
