1:400 Diecast: Eastern Air Lines Boeing 747-121 N731PA "Whisperjet" Classic Livery (JC Wings XX40361)

N731PA is a Boeing 747-121, MSN 19637 (line number 4)—the fourth Boeing 747 ever built. The airframe was delivered to Pan American World Airways in July 1970, carrying the name "Clipper Bostonian" (later renamed "Clipper Ocean Express"). Pan Am leased the aircraft to Eastern Air Lines on multiple occasions between 1970 and 1987, where it operated in a hybrid livery: Eastern's "Whisperjet" titles and fuselage stripes paired with the Eastern falcon on the tail. By May 1987 it had transferred to Tower Air before conversion to freighter configuration as N474EV for Evergreen International Airlines, accumulating over 63,000 flight hours and 14,600 cycles with Pan Am alone.

Livery & Visual Details

The model displays Eastern's classic Whisperjet scheme: a clean white fuselage with a single thin dark-blue horizontal cheatline running below the window line from nose to tail. Grey wing upper surfaces and grey horizontal stabilizer create a tonal contrast against the white fuselage. The vertical stabilizer is white above with the lower rudder section in dark grey; Eastern's "hockey stick" stylized-E logo is centered on the white portion of the fin, with "EASTERN" in large dark blue/black capitals below it. "EASTERN" is also printed on the forward fuselage above the cheatline, aft of the cockpit. The registration "N731PA" appears in dark lettering on the aft fuselage. All four engine nacelles are rendered in metallic silver, matching the JT9D's bare-metal housing consistent with early 747-100 production standards. A small US flag sits near the top of the vertical stabilizer above the Eastern logo.

Model Craft & Collectibility

JC Wings XX40361 captures this historically significant airframe at 1:400 scale in diecast metal. As the 4th 747 produced, N731PA occupies a uniquely documentable position in aviation history—a single airframe with continuous records from first flight through final scrapping. The Eastern-titles/Pan-Am-origin hybrid chapter represents a brief, rarely modeled configuration from the 747's commercial launch era, when Pan Am leased 747s to multiple carriers during traffic volatility in the early 1970s.
