1:200 Diecast: Alaska Air Cargo Boeing 737-400SF N709AS (JC Wings XX20398)
N709AS carries MSN 28896, line number 3099 — a Boeing 737-490 delivered to Alaska Airlines on 6 March 1999. In June 2006, the aircraft was converted to an all-cargo freighter configuration by Pemco World Air Services, becoming the sole 737-400SF (Special Freighter) in Alaska's fleet and the airline's only narrowbody freighter at the time. N709AS served Alaska Air Cargo on Alaskan intra-state freight routes — a mission profile distinct from the broader 737-400 passenger fleet. The aircraft was withdrawn from service in March 2018 and subsequently stored at Phoenix Goodyear Airport before its registration transferred to Mistral Air in Europe as EI-GHB.
Livery & Visual Details
The model wears the Alaska Air Cargo scheme: a white fuselage base with the primary livery colour in deep dark green. "Alaska Air Cargo" appears in large dark-green italicised lettering along the mid-fuselage, with "Alaska" in the dominant larger weight. A dark-green cheatline originates at the nose and extends rearward, blending into the all-green vertical stabiliser. The vertical stabiliser carries Alaska Airlines' iconic Eskimo face in white. Engine nacelles are white with a broad dark-green band encircling them behind the silver intake lip. Blended winglets at each wingtip are in medium grey. A small U.S. flag is visible on the aft fuselage. Registration N709AS is printed in black on the rear fuselage above the cheatline.
Model Craftsmanship & Collector Value
JC Wings released this as XX20398 at 1:200 scale in diecast metal. N709AS is documented as the only 737-400SF in Alaska's history — a one-of-one cargo conversion within a predominantly passenger fleet, which gives this specific registration distinct research value. The Pemco freighter modification involves cargo door installation and interior reconfiguration not replicated in the standard 737-400 passenger tooling. Model dimensions: 18.23 cm length × 14.44 cm wingspan.
