ZK-NEC (MSN 616) rolled off the Bombardier production line in Toronto on 12 October 2005 under temporary Canadian registration C-FEDG. The turboprop completed its delivery routing via North Bay, Grand Rapids, Honolulu, Pago Pago, and Auckland before arriving at Nelson on 20 November 2005, entering service with Air Nelson — operating as Air New Zealand Link. The airframe served the South Island regional network for over thirteen years before Air Nelson was integrated into Air New Zealand operations in late 2019.

Livery & Visual Details

The model depicts ZK-NEC in Air Nelson's "Pacific Wave" scheme, worn during the early-to-mid years of its Air New Zealand Link service. The forward fuselage is white; the aft fuselage and entire vertical stabilizer are finished in a sweeping teal-turquoise gradient. "AIR NEW ZEALAND" appears in dark blue on the forward cabin in the carrier's period logotype, complemented by a Star Alliance roundel. The tail carries a large white silver fern motif against the teal field. No winglets — classic straight wingtips standard to the DHC-8-300. Propeller blades and engine nacelles are dark gray-black.

Model Craftsmanship & Collector Notes

JC Wings released XX20328 in late 2024 at 1:200 scale in diecast metal with rubber-tired undercarriage and a metal display stand. The "Pacific Wave" livery was replaced on ZK-NEC by the current Silver Fern scheme circa 2018, making this model the preservation record of an earlier color chapter for the airframe. The precise DHC-8-300 tooling captures the shorter fuselage plug relative to the Q400.
