1:500 Scale: Japan Airlines Boeing 747-446 JA8906 "Hawaii 50th Anniversary" (Hogan BJE2081)

JA8906 (MSN 26350, Line Number 961) entered Japan Airlines service on 1 March 1993, built to the 747-446 specification with its stretched upper deck and PW4056 powerplants. Fourteen years into its passenger career, the aircraft was converted to Boeing Converted Freighter configuration in March 2007 for JAL Cargo operations. In November 2010 it transferred to Kalitta Air as N743CK. At the time of this commemorative livery application in summer 2003, JA8906 wore the "JAL Hawaii 50th Anniversary" special scheme to mark half a century since JAL's inaugural international service—a twice-weekly Douglas DC-6B flight from Tokyo to Honolulu, operated on 2 February 1954 aboard the DC-6B named "City of Tokyo."

Livery & Visual Detail

The fuselage is off-white with the standard Tsurumaru crane-and-JAL block-letter livery. On the forward mid-fuselage above the windows, "JAL-HAWAII 50th ANNIVERSARY" appears in dark lettering accompanied by a commemorative red-square badge. Spanning the mid-to-aft fuselage below the window line, a 1:1 silhouette graphic of the DC-6B "City of Tokyo" is rendered in monochrome, with the inscription "First International Flight — February 2 1954 — DC-6B" in serif font directly above. The upper two-thirds of the vertical stabilizer carries solid red, separated from the white lower section by a metallic silver trim stripe. Wingtips are the classic Boeing 747 raked style. Four underwing engine nacelles are white. All four main-gear bogies and nose gear are visible in the extended position.

Produced by Hogan under item number BJE2081 at 1:500 scale in ABS plastic. This release captures a collector-documented special livery that appeared on JA8906 at Narita in December 2003 and was photographed extensively at Zurich, London Heathrow, and Los Angeles. JA8906（MSN 26350、製造番号961番）は1993年3月1日に日本航空（JAL）へ納入されたボーイング747-446型機です。PW4056エンジン4基を搭載し、ストレッチされた上部デッキを持つ－446仕様として建造されました。2003年夏に施された「JALハワイ就航50周年」特別塗装は、1954年2月2日にDC-6B「City of Tokyo」で運航されたJAL初の国際線（羽田＝ホノルル）を記念したものです。機体は2007年3月に貨物型BCFへ改造（JALカーゴ運航）、2010年11月にKalitta Air（N743CK）へ移籍しています。

塗装の特徴として、機体中央部から後方の窓下エリアにDC-6B「City of Tokyo」のシルエット図案が実機1:1比率でモノクロ描画され、「First International Flight — February 2 1954 — DC-6B」の碑文が添えられています。尾翼上部3分の2は鮮烈な赤で塗られ、下部との境界にはシルバーの帯が入っています。JALロゴと「JAL-HAWAII 50th ANNIVERSARY」の文字が前方胴体に印刷されています。垂直尾翼には鶴丸ロゴなし（この時期のJAL標準デザイン）。翼端は747クラシック型ラケット式。エンジンナセルは白色。
