1:500 Diecast: VARIG Boeing 767-241(ER) PP-VNN (Herpa Wings 536448)
PP-VNN holds MSN 23803 (line number 161) and was delivered to VARIG on July 2, 1987. The aircraft is the extended-range 767-200ER sub-variant, designated 767-241(ER) in VARIG's fleet series. It operated South American and transatlantic routes before being stored at Marana in October 2003. The airframe subsequently re-entered service as a freighter under registrations N768QT and later N881YV with 21 Air — a trajectory uncommon for widebodies from Brazil's flagship carrier. Model dimensions: 9.71 cm length / 9.52 cm wingspan.
Livery & Visual Details
The fuselage is white. A multi-stripe cheatline in dark blue and teal runs along the lower fuselage, with "BRASIL" and a small Brazilian national flag positioned forward, followed by "VARIG" in large dark blue sans-serif lettering. "BOEING 767-200 EXTENDED RANGE" appears in small capitals below the stripe. Registration PP-VNN is visible near the aft fuselage. The white vertical stabilizer features the VARIG circular logo — a dark blue ring enclosing a stylized eight-pointed white star. Wingtips are conventional with no extensions. Engine nacelles are light grey with dark intakes.
Model Craft & Collectibility
Herpa Wings 536448 is cast in metal at 1:500 scale, with a wingspan of 95 mm and a weight of 94 g. This model was released as part of Herpa's Boeing 767 40th anniversary series (2022 Wave 9/10). VARIG ceased operations in 2006, and PP-VNN's long post-VARIG service life adds a documented layered history that collector-focused descriptions typically lack.
