1:200 Diecast: USAF Douglas C-54G 44-9063 "Rosinenbomber" – 75 Years Berlin Airlift (Herpa 573177)
Serial number 44-9063, construction number 27289, is a Douglas C-54G Skymaster built at Santa Monica, California and taken on strength with the United States Army Air Force on 16 March 1945. After a post-war career that passed through Pan American, Swissair and several cargo operators, it was acquired by the National Museum of the United States Air Force in January 1990, restored in silver overall finish with a red fuselage flash, and placed on display at Rhein-Main AFB, Frankfurt — the key airfield of the 1948–1949 Berlin Airlift. This specific aircraft is known as the "Rosinenbomber," the German term for the candy-dropping C-54s that became a symbol of the airlift. Herpa released this 1:200 model to mark the 75th anniversary of Operation Vittles.
Livery & Visual Details
The model is finished in overall metallic silver. A bold red fuselage stripe with a forward chevron edge runs along the mid-fuselage. "TROOP CARRIER" is lettered in large black block capitals above the stripe. The name "Rosinen Bomber" appears in script below the cockpit windows on the port side. USAF star-and-bar roundels are present on the rear fuselage and upper wing surface. The tail code "9063" is stencilled on the vertical stabilizer in black. Four-bladed propellers are black with yellow tips. No winglets — straight classic wingtips consistent with the C-54 type. The display stand reads "Rosinen Bomber / Douglas C-54 / 75 years Berlin Airlift / herpa."
