1:500 Diecast: Spanish Air Force Airbus A400M TK.23-14 "Ala 31 — 50 Aniversario" (Herpa HE537872)

TK.23-14 was the 14th Airbus A400M Atlas delivered to Spain's Ejército del Aire. Its arrival at Zaragoza's Ala 31 (31st Air Wing) coincided with the wing's 50th anniversary, leading to a dedicated commemorative tail design. Ala 31 traces its roots to the 301st Squadron formed in 1973, becoming an air transport wing five years later with two squadrons. The A400M designation in Spanish service is T.23 for the pure transport role and TK.23 for the tanker-transport variant. The type replaced the C-130 Hercules from 2016, extending the wing's motto — "Lo que sea, donde sea y cuando sea" (Whatever, wherever and whenever). Herpa released this 1:500 model in November/December 2024 under item 537872.

Livery & Visual Detail

Uniform medium-dark tactical grey across the entire airframe — standard Ejército del Aire transport scheme. "EJÉRCITO DEL AIRE" in light grey on the forward fuselage. Small Spanish national flags (red-yellow-red horizontal bands) on both fuselage sides below the wing roots. The vertical stabilizer carries the Ala 31 commemorative badge: a stylized elephant heraldic figure (the squadron's symbol) against the Spanish flag colours with the number "50" in yellow — the anniversary marker. Aircraft serial "143" visible at the base of the fin in the image corresponds to the last three digits of TK.23-14's full serial. Four Europrop TP400-D6 turboprop engines with 8-bladed Ratier-Figeac propellers in black with high-visibility yellow tips.

Model Craftsmanship & Collector Notes

Herpa Wings 1:500 diecast metal. Wingspan 85 mm. The commemorative Ala 31 50th anniversary tail scheme was applied to this single airframe, making TK.23-14 the only A400M to carry this livery — a documented one-airframe event that qualifies as a genuine collector target. No display stand included.
