Panavia Tornado IDS 44+69 served with TaktLwG 51 "Immelmann" at Schleswig-Jagel Air Base. In June 2023, this aircraft wore a unique commemorative livery for Air Defender 23 — the largest air force deployment exercise in NATO history, involving around 250 aircraft from 25 nations across German airspace from June 12 to 23, 2023. Herpa Wings released this 1:200 diecast in March/April 2024 to document the event.

Livery & Visual Details

Fuselage and wings are matte operational grey with panel-line accents in darker grey. The nose cone is black. The two vertical stabilizers carry the defining feature: the right fin reproduces the American flag (red and white stripes, blue field with white stars) with "AIR DEFENDER 2023" in white lettering; the left fin shows the German flag (black, red, gold stripes) with the same text in white. A Balkenkreuz cross sits below the cockpit, followed by "44+69" in black. The model depicts wings at partial sweep. Underwing pylons carry external fuel tanks and air-to-air missiles. Exhaust nozzles have a burnt-metal finish. No wingtip devices — the IDS variant carries none.
