1:500 Diecast: Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 D-ABYC "Sachsen" (Herpa HE531283-001)
Registration D-ABYC, MSN 37828 (Line Number 1451), first flew on 7 June 2012 and was delivered to Lufthansa on 1 July 2012, carrying the state name "Sachsen" — the Federal State of Saxony. D-ABYC is a Boeing 747-830, the passenger variant of the 747-8 family. The aircraft is powered by four General Electric GEnx-2B67 engines, placing it among the quietest and most fuel-efficient 747s ever built. Lufthansa operates a fleet of Boeing 747-8s as its primary long-haul widebody, and D-ABYC carries the carrier's new redesigned livery featuring a deep navy blue tail with the classic Lufthansa crane.
Livery & Visual Details
"Lufthansa" appears in blue sans-serif lettering on the white forward fuselage, with "Boeing 747-8" marked in smaller text directly below. A Star Alliance roundel is positioned near the cockpit. Registration D-ABYC is on the rear fuselage in black, with a small German flag above it. The tail is solid dark navy with the iconic white crane-in-circle logo centred on the stabilizer. The 747-8's signature raked wingtips — angled upward and aft — distinguish the type from earlier 747 variants at a glance. Four GEnx-2B nacelles carry metallic silver intakes and exhausts.
Model Craft & Collectibility
Herpa produced HE531283-001 in diecast metal at 1:500 scale. At approximately 15 cm wingspan, the model conveys the 747-8's extended upper deck and distinctive raked wingtips. No display stand included. The "Sachsen" name on D-ABYC places it in Lufthansa's tradition of naming 747s after German federal states.
