1:500 Diecast: JAT Jugoslovenski Aerotransport Boeing 727-200 YU-AKJ (Herpa 537599)

YU-AKJ is a Boeing 727-200, MSN 22394 (Line Number 1691), delivered to JAT Jugoslovenski Aerotransport on 15 December 1980. Powered by three Pratt & Whitney JT8D-15 engines — two mounted on aft fuselage pylons and one fed through an S-duct in the tail — the aircraft served JAT's European network through the 1980s and 1990s. It was withdrawn from service and stored at Belgrade in 2002, subsequently scrapped. Herpa released 537599 as part of the Boeing 727 60th-anniversary production series.

Livery & Visual Details

The fuselage is white with a dark blue cheatline running below the cabin windows, widening toward the tail. A thin red stripe runs beneath the blue band, with a light grey accent below that. "JUGOSLOVENSKI AEROTRANSPORT" is written in red italicised capitals on the forward cabin above the window line. The JAT logo occupies the lower vertical stabiliser: a stylised red oval with white lettering "JAT" on a dark blue background. Three horizontal stripes — red, white, blue, representing Yugoslav national colours — appear below the logo on the tail. All three engine nacelles are finished in metallic silver-grey.

Herpa 537599 is diecast metal at 1:500 scale. The trijet configuration and Yugoslav-flag carrier status make YU-AKJ one of the more historically specific releases in the 727 anniversary series.
