1:200 Diecast: Interflug Ilyushin IL-62M DDR-SEO (Herpa HE571708-001)

DDR-SEO carries MSN 3344833. Interflug became the German Democratic Republic's sole national carrier in 1963, and from 1970 operated Ilyushin IL-62s on the prestige Berlin–Moscow route alongside long-haul services to Baghdad, Damascus, Cairo, and African destinations. The GDR was the second-largest IL-62 customer after Aeroflot, taking 21 airframes in total. DDR-SEO was among the later IL-62Ms delivered before 1986, replacing older IL-62s and IL-18s on the fleet. Herpa released this model in November/December 2024 under item 571708-001.

Livery & Visual Detail

Gloss white fuselage with a prominent bright red cheatline running nose-to-tail, widening toward the rear and merging into a predominantly red vertical stabilizer. "INTERFLUG" in stylized red capitals on the upper forward fuselage; the distinctive white Interflug "I-bird" logo on the red tail section; registration DDR-SEO in black below the tail logo. A small East German flag appears at the top of the fin. The nose radome is dark grey. Four turbojet engines mounted in pairs on pylons flanking the rear fuselage, characteristic of all IL-62 variants. Conventional straight wingtips — no winglets.

Model Craftsmanship & Collector Notes

Herpa Wings 1:200 diecast metal, wingspan 216 mm, weight 979 g — Herpa's largest IL-62 mould in current production. The "second version" 1980s-scheme registration DDR-SEO distinguishes this release from the earlier colour-scheme variant. Comes with display stand.
