1:200 Diecast: Cubana de Aviacion Ilyushin IL-62M CU-T1280 (Herpa HE573405)
CU-T1280 carries MSN 3749648 and operated with Cubana de Aviacion across multiple decades. The Ilyushin IL-62M is the stretched and re-engined variant of the original IL-62, powered by four Soloviev D-30KU turbofan engines — all four mounted in the tail, two to a side in paired nacelles. Cubana operated IL-62Ms on its flagship routes between Havana and European destinations, with documented sightings of CU-T1280 at Helsinki, Paris Orly, and Varadero.
Livery & Visual Details
Classic early Cubana colour scheme: white fuselage, with the registration CU-T1280 on the upper forward fuselage and mirrored on the port wing undersurface. The vertical tail displays three vertical bands — red, dark blue, red — on a white field. Horizontal stabiliser tips are red. "CUBANA" appears in bold dark-blue capitals along the lower forward fuselage. A small Cuban national flag is visible forward of the cockpit. The four rear-mounted nacelles are white with silver exhaust cones. Wings carry unpainted metallic upper surfaces. Classic blunt wingtips without winglet devices.
Model Craft & Collectibility
Herpa has long maintained the only high-fidelity 1:200 IL-62M tooling available to collectors. The type's near-extinction from commercial service makes any IL-62M release a finite-quantity proposition. Diecast alloy fuselage with detailed undercarriage deployed.
