1:200 Diecast: CAAC Xian Y-7 B-3457 (Herpa HE573016)
B-3457 is a Xian Y-7 turboprop operated under the CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) banner—the unified state airline brand that preceded the breakup of Chinese aviation into separate carriers in 1988. The Y-7 is a Chinese-produced development of the Soviet Antonov An-24, built by Xian Aircraft Company. CAAC operated the Y-7 on domestic feeder routes throughout the 1980s. B-3457 represents the era when a single entity—CAAC—controlled all civil aviation activity in China, making any CAAC-liveried model a fixed historical snapshot before market liberalisation.
Livery & Visual Details
White fuselage with a dark blue cheatline running from nose through the lower window band to the tail. Chinese characters reading 中国民航 (Civil Aviation of China) appear in blue on the forward fuselage alongside CAAC's red stylised bird logo. The vertical stabilizer carries the national flag of the People's Republic of China—red field with five yellow stars. Registration B-3457 is displayed in blue on the aft fuselage. Four-bladed turboprop engines with yellow-tipped propeller blades. Red navigation light fairings are visible at the wingtips and horizontal stabilizer tips.
Model Craft & Collectibility
Herpa produced HE573016 at 1:200 scale in diecast metal with plastic components. The Y-7/An-24 mold is a niche casting rarely attempted by other manufacturers at this scale. CAAC-liveried models from this period carry strong appeal among collectors of Chinese aviation history—the pre-1988 fleet is finite and well-documented.
