1:500 Diecast: Alaska Airlines Boeing 727-90C N797AS "Totem Pole" Livery (Herpa 537292)
Registered N797AS, this Boeing 727-90C carries manufacturer serial number 19169, line number 320. Its first flight was 25 September 1966; Alaska Airlines took delivery on 27 October 1966, making N797AS the airline's very first Boeing 727 — the aircraft that launched Alaska's long relationship with the type. The airline operated it until December 1985. Herpa released this 1:500 model as the third in their series marking the 60th anniversary of the Boeing 727's entry into service.
Livery & Visual Details
The fuselage is white with a black nose cone. "Alaska" is lettered in bold black on the forward fuselage. A cheatline of green over gold runs along the lower fuselage from nose to tail, sweeping upward towards the tail — the classic pre-Eskimo scheme known to collectors as the Totem Pole or "Golden Nugget" livery. The white vertical stabilizer carries the stylised green Native Alaskan face logo above the word "Alaska." The registration N797AS is in black on the aft lower fuselage. Three rear-mounted JT8D engines have silver/metallic exhaust zones. No winglets on the straight classic wingtips of the 727-100 series.
Model Craft & Collectability
Produced by Herpa under item number 537292 in 1:500 scale. Diecast metal. No display stand. Dimensions approximately 10.15 × 8.23 × 2.59 cm. As the third release in Herpa's 727 60th-anniversary series, this model documents N797AS specifically — a named first-delivery airframe — rather than a generic Alaska livery example, reinforcing its research and collection value.
