1:500 Diecast: Air France Boeing 777-300ER F-GZNF "Dunkerque" (Herpa). This aircraft, registration F-GZNF, carries the name of the northern French port city of Dunkirk (Dunkerque) on its fuselage. Released in March/April 2024, this Herpa model represents Air France's updated livery introduced in spring 2021—featuring larger "Air France" titles, with the type designation and SkyTeam logo moved to the rear of the aircraft, opening up the area behind the cockpit for the winged seahorse emblem .

A history of notable incidents: F-GZNF has been involved in two significant events during its service. On August 10, 2010, operating as flight AF-344 from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Montreal with 461 people on board, the crew received a cargo fire indication while enroute over Canada. Descending to FL200, the aircraft diverted to Goose Bay, Newfoundland, where it landed safely one hour later. The indication was determined to be false, and the forward cargo smoke detector was replaced before the aircraft returned to service.

The 2018 sonic boom intercept: On March 22, 2018, F-GZNF was operating flight AF671 when it temporarily lost communication with air traffic control. Two Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons were scrambled from Istrana airbase, intercepting the airliner near Aosta close to the French border. The Typhoons established radio contact and requested the 777 to perform a 360° turn to verify it was not being hijacked—a maneuver clearly visible on Flightradar24 tracking. After the crew complied, the Italian jets handed the aircraft over to French Air Defense, and it continued safely to its destination. The supersonic intercept generated sonic booms heard across northern Italy, causing temporary alarm and even evacuations of some schools and a courthouse.

Fleet context: Air France operates 43 Boeing 777-300ERs, making them the backbone of the airline's long-haul fleet. While some are configured with 472 seats for high-density leisure routes, F-GZNF is part of the fleet that serves destinations across North America, the Caribbean, and Asia. The 777-300ER is powered by two General Electric GE90-115B engines—the world's most powerful jet engines at 115,300 lbf thrust each.

About this model: Herpa released F-GZNF (item 535618-001) in March/April 2024 as part of their 1:500 diecast range. The model accurately captures Air France's 2021 updated livery—with the winged seahorse emblem positioned behind the cockpit, the "Air France" titles prominently displayed, and the SkyTeam logo and type designation relocated to the rear fuselage. The "Dunkerque" name decal appears on the forward fuselage. At 18.48 cm long with a 130 mm wingspan, it features detailed GE90 engine fans and the distinctive 777-300ER profile. For collectors of Air France, aircraft with dramatic incident histories that ended safely, or 777 variants, this represents a machine that has faced both technical emergencies and military intercepts—and kept flying.
