1:400 Diecast: TWA Boeing 727-100 N851TW "Twin Globe" (GeminiJets GJTWA2353)

N851TW carries MSN 18570 (line number 39), a Boeing 727-31 that completed its first flight on 4 April 1964 and was delivered to Trans World Airlines on 25 April 1964. One of the early production 727-100s, the airframe accumulated 60,470 total flight hours over a 26-year career with TWA before being withdrawn from use in July 1990. It was subsequently preserved rather than scrapped, making it a surviving example of the early trijets that defined domestic jet travel in the 1960s.

Livery & Visual Details

The model replicates TWA's Twin Globe livery as carried during the 1960s: white upper fuselage, a bold red cheatline running along the lower fuselage above the natural-metal belly, with the red stripe widening into a chevron pattern at the tailcone. The vertical stabilizer is natural-metal silver with a prominent red TWA logo circle. The registration N851TW appears in black on the upper rear fuselage. The two wing-mounted engine nacelles carry "StarStream 727" text in white on the nacelle body, a period-correct marking TWA applied to its 727 fleet. The center (S-duct) engine integrates into the tail with a white nacelle and dark exhaust cone. Wingtips are straight-cut without extensions, correct for the 727-100. Rolling gear is deployed.

Model Craft & Collectibility

TWA Twin Globe releases draw sustained demand from collectors of American heritage carriers, and the 727-100 in particular represents the airline's domestic expansion era that preceded the widebody transition.
