D-ABYA is a Boeing 747-830, MSN 37827, line number 1443, delivered to Lufthansa on 28 April 2012 — one of the carrier's earliest deliveries of the stretched 747-8 Intercontinental. The aircraft carries the name "Brandenburg," following Lufthansa's tradition of naming 747 frames after German federal states. It is powered by four General Electric GEnx-2B67 engines, the same powerplant series used on the 747-8F freighter variant.

The model wears Lufthansa's classic scheme: a white fuselage with the "Lufthansa" wordmark in dark blue on the forward section and a dark blue/black vertical stabilizer centred by the iconic crane logo in white within a white circle.
