1:400 Diecast: Lufthansa Airbus A380-800 D-AIMK (Geminijets). This aircraft holds a significant place in Lufthansa's A380 history. Delivered to the German flag carrier in October 2013, D-AIMK was the first of Lufthansa's A380s to return to service after the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 1, 2023, it operated flight LH424 from Munich to Boston, marking the airline's official A380 comeback after more than two years in storage.
A380 comeback story: During the pandemic, Lufthansa retired six of its fourteen A380s, keeping eight in long-term storage at Teruel, Spain. D-AIMK was stored there from May 2020 until December 2022, then underwent maintenance at Frankfurt before flying to Manila for a C-check in early 2023. By February 2025, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr confirmed the airline was "very happy" with the decision to bring back the A380 fleet, noting they were short of 41 Boeing aircraft alone and the quad-jets were essential for serving premium markets with full loads. Today, D-AIMK primarily operates high-demand routes from Munich to destinations like Boston, Los Angeles, Bangkok, and Delhi.
About this model: Geminijets released D-AIMK in Lufthansa's current livery with the yellow crane logo on the tail. The 1:400 diecast features the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines specific to Lufthansa's A380-841 variant. For collectors tracking A380 operations or Lufthansa's post-pandemic fleet revival, this aircraft represents a pivotal moment—the first superjumbo to lead the airline's A380 resurgence.
