N859HA is a McDonnell Douglas MD-81, MSN 48074. The aircraft was delivered new to Hawaiian Airlines on December 11, 1981, powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-217 turbofans. It transferred to Frontier Airlines on January 7, 1986 — entering the fleet just months before Continental acquired Frontier in August of that year, giving N859HA one of the shortest tenures in Frontier livery of any airframe on the roster. The aircraft later flew as N16884 for Continental.

Livery & Visual Details

The model wears Frontier's legendary Saul Bass livery, introduced in 1978 — one of the most celebrated corporate identity designs in American aviation history. A rich orange band dominates the upper rear fuselage and bleeds into deep red toward the empennage; a narrower red cheatline traces the full fuselage length. "FRONTIER" appears in dark sans-serif capitals on the forward white fuselage, flanked by a stylized red "F" logo on the nose. The same logo is reproduced in large on the white vertical stabilizer. Rear-mounted twin engines on pylons flank the T-tail, nacelles in white with silver exhaust cones. Classic straight-cut wingtips with no winglets.
