1:200 Diecast: Continental Airlines MD-81 N859HA "Frontier Hybrid" (Gemini Jets G2COA1363)

N859HA documents a corporate chapter that aviation historians track carefully. MSN 48074, a McDonnell Douglas MD-81, was first delivered to Hawaiian Airlines on December 11, 1981. In January 1986 the aircraft transferred to Frontier Airlines during that carrier's final operational year. When Frontier ceased operations in October 1986 and merged into Continental, N859HA became part of the Continental fleet — still wearing Frontier's original livery rather than Continental's standard scheme. That transition state is what Gemini Jets captured with G2COA1363: the hybrid moment when a Frontier-painted MD-81 flew under Continental registration. Planespotters records later show the registration continuing as N16884 with Continental.

The livery is immediately recognizable. The nose cone is deep maroon, the color bleeding into a long gradient stripe running the full fuselage length — dark red at the tail, transitioning through burnt orange to golden amber at the nose. Above the stripe, "CONTINENTAL" appears in bold black sans-serif on the forward fuselage. The Continental globe "meatball" logo occupies the white vertical stabilizer: a red circle containing three white crescent-shaped elements. Continental's standard meatball on Frontier's classic gradient stripe — the two identities coexisting on one airframe. The MD-81's defining features are accurately rendered: twin rear-mounted JT8D-style nacelles, T-tail configuration, and the long narrow fuselage. No winglets on this variant. All landing gear deployed.
