B-2253 (MSN 53526, line number 2170) was delivered to China Northern Airlines on February 24, 1997 — one of the MD-90-30s acquired as the carrier upgraded from MD-80-series equipment on domestic Chinese trunk routes. When China Northern merged into China Southern Airlines in 2004, B-2253 transferred to the new parent under the same registration. The airframe later entered the Delta Air Lines fleet as N956DN from January 2011. This model captures the aircraft in its original China Northern identity, a carrier that ceased to exist independently after the 2002 Chinese aviation consolidation.
