PP-VLW was a Boeing 727-173C delivered to VARIG, MSN 19507, line number 449. VARIG — Viação Aérea Rio-Grandense — was Brazil's flag carrier from 1927 until its collapse in 2008, and the Boeing 727-100 was the backbone of the airline's domestic and regional network from 1970 onward. PP-VLW later transferred to Air Gemini (São Tomé and Príncipe) as S9-BAH, giving this single airframe service across two continents.

Livery & Visual Details

Classic VARIG 1970s scheme: white upper fuselage with a dark blue cheatline edged by a thin lighter-blue stripe along the lower hull. The nose cone is dark blue. "VARIG" appears in large dark blue capitals on the mid-fuselage, with the trademark circular logo — a light blue starburst on white, enclosed in a dark blue ring — incorporated into the lettering's "V." "BRASIL" is printed on the forward fuselage. A small Brazilian flag decal sits just aft of the cockpit. The vertical stabiliser carries the VARIG circular logo centrally. Engine 1 and 3 (wing-mounted) nacelles are silver natural-metal finish; Engine 2 (tail S-duct) is white with "727" in small red text. Standard 727-100 swept wingtips, no winglets.
