1:400 Diecast: United Airlines Boeing 737-222 N9038U "Saul Bass Tulip" (AeroClassics AC411372)
N9038U holds MSN 19076 (line number 99) and entered United Airlines service on November 27, 1968 — among the airline's earliest 737 deliveries. The 737-222 is the United-specific series code for the original 737-200. The airframe was the 99th 737 off the Boeing production line and operated within United's domestic short-haul network until retirement. It has since been scrapped. Model dimensions: 7.64 cm length / 7.09 cm wingspan.
Livery & Visual Details
This model captures United's "Saul Bass" Tulip livery, introduced in 1974 and retired in 1993. The white upper fuselage is separated from the lower by a bold triple-stripe cheatline in orange, red, and blue. The nose tip is solid blue. "UNITED" appears in blue capital letters on the forward fuselage. Registration N9038U is printed near the tail. The vertical stabilizer carries the iconic Tulip logo — vertical stripes of blue, red, and orange forming a stylized "U." Engine nacelles are metallic silver with dark intakes. Wingtips are conventional flat-cut with no extensions.
Model Craft & Collectibility
AeroClassics AC411372 is a full diecast metal 1:400 model with permanently fixed metal landing gear and tampo-printed livery. AeroClassics frequently produces early-generation narrowbody types that are otherwise absent from major manufacturers' catalogues. This release is discontinued and has attracted secondary-market attention among collectors of classic United liveries and original 737-200 variants.
