1:200 Diecast: PIA Boeing 720-047B AP-AXL (AeroClassics AC211186A)
AP-AXL, construction number 18818 (Line Number 390), first flew on 23 September 1964 and was delivered to Western Airlines as N93152 on 25 September 1964. Pakistan International Airlines acquired the aircraft, re-registering it AP-AXL in August 1974. It served PIA until July 1986, when it was ferried from Karachi to Lahore and withdrawn from use. On 12 November 1986, AP-AXL was moved to the PIA Planetarium in Lahore, where it remains on outdoor static display — confirmed as PIA's last Boeing 720B to fly in airline colours.
Livery & Visual Details
The model displays PIA's classic dark green and silver livery. A bold dark green cheatline runs along the cabin windows, bordered below by a thin white and silver stripe. The lower fuselage and wings carry a natural metal / silver-grey finish. The vertical stabilizer is solid dark green, bearing "PIA" in white near the top with small white stars below. The fuselage reads "PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL" in dark green above the window line. Registration "AP-AXL" appears in dark green below the windows. The four JT3D engine nacelles are finished in bare silver metal. The nose cone is black with an anti-glare panel, typical of early jet-age airliners.
Model Craft & Collectability
Produced by AeroClassics (Item# AC211186A) at 1:200 scale in diecast metal. The Boeing 720-047B was a shorter-range, lighter derivative of the 707 optimised for thinner routes. AP-AXL's history — Western Airlines origin, PIA service, Lahore Planetarium preservation — makes this a richly documented vintage piece.
