1:200 Diecast: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 720B ET-AAG (AeroClassics AC211404)
ET-AAG, MSN 18454, was one of the first two Boeing 720-060Bs delivered to Ethiopian Airlines in November 1962, making EAL the first airline on the African continent to operate jet-powered commercial service. The aircraft arrived alongside ET-AAH (MSN 18455) to inaugurate what the airline called its Jet Age. Both aircraft entered service on EAL's trunk routes out of the newly constructed Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa. ET-AAG carried the Boeing 720-060B sub-variant designation — a turbofan-re-engined evolution of the original 720 airframe built specifically for short-to-medium range performance at higher-altitude and hot-weather airports, making it an operationally appropriate choice for East African routes.
Livery & Visual Detail
The model replicates EAL's classic early-1960s livery. The upper fuselage is white; the lower fuselage and belly carry a natural polished metal finish. A wide cheatline runs the length of the cabin windows: a gold-yellow band bordered top and bottom by a thin red stripe, with a continuous row of small white squares running through its center. The vertical stabilizer carries three bold vertical bands — green at the leading edge, yellow in the middle, red at the trailing edge — with the white letters EAL superimposed across all three stripes. The title "ETHIOPIAN" appears in red above the cheatline, accompanied by the airline name in Amharic script rendered in the same red. The Lion of Judah emblem is positioned on the forward fuselage below the cockpit. All four engine nacelles are silver-grey. The wingtips are classic tapered, without winglets — period-correct for the 720B airframe.
Model Craft & Collectibility
AeroClassics produces this model in diecast metal construction with separately applied antennas and pre-painted livery. The AC211404 release captures an aircraft type with only 154 examples ever built, represented here in one of its rarest early-operator liveries. AeroClassics' 1:200 Boeing 720 tooling renders the distinctive shorter fuselage and inboard leading-edge glove that visually separates the 720 from the 707 — a detail that matters to type-specific collectors. The model is supplied with a display stand.
