1:400 Diecast: Air New Zealand Boeing 747-400 ZK-SUH "City of Dunedin" (Phoenix PH11770)
ZK-SUH carries MSN 24896 (Line Number 855), built in 1991 and initially delivered to Varig as PP-VPI. Air New Zealand took it on lease from ILFC in November 1994, registering the aircraft on 8 November and flying it into Auckland the following day. The airline named the airframe "City of Dunedin" after the South Island city. ZK-SUH flew transpacific routes for nearly two decades, logging its final revenue flight on 15 July 2014 (NZ007, San Francisco–Auckland) before ferrying to Victorville for storage and eventual scrapping in October 2016.
Livery & Visual Detail
The model wears Air New Zealand's Pacific Wave scheme: white upper fuselage with a wide jade-green cheatline below the windows and a narrower navy-blue stripe above it. The nose cone is painted navy blue. The vertical stabilizer is navy blue carrying the white Koru fern-frond logo, topped by a thin teal accent stripe. "AIR NEW ZEALAND" appears in large navy sans-serif lettering on the forward fuselage, with a small New Zealand flag forward of the cockpit. Wing-mounted 747-400 wingtip extensions are rendered in navy blue. Four engines on underwing pylons, light-grey nacelles with dark intake rings.
Model Craft & Collectibility
Phoenix Models PH11770 is a 1:400 diecast alloy production capturing the 747-475 variant specification. ZK-SUH represents a full Air New Zealand career aircraft in the Pacific Wave livery — the classic scheme that preceded the airline's current black-tail identity — making it a reference piece for collectors focused on Oceania carriers and Boeing 747-400 operators.
