9V-SGD (MSN 560) was delivered to Singapore Airlines on April 8, 2004, as part of the carrier's five-aircraft A340-541 fleet. Powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 553 engines, the A340-500 entered SIA service specifically to operate the world's longest nonstop routes — Singapore–Los Angeles and Singapore–Newark — distances that no other commercial aircraft of the era could sustain without a technical stop. Singapore Airlines retired its A340-500 fleet in late 2013, with 9V-SGD stored as F-WJKM before passing to Las Vegas Sands as VP-BMS in May 2014. Only 34 A340-500s were ever built.

Livery & Visual Details

The model wears Singapore Airlines' classic "Tropical Sunrise" livery — the Sarong Kebaya scheme. The fuselage is gloss white with a wide dark-brown stripe along the window belt, bordered above and below by a shimmering gold band. The lower belly transitions into a rich golden-bronze that deepens towards the tail. The vertical stabilizer is deep navy blue, carrying the iconic Silver Kris motif in gold. "SINGAPORE AIRLINES" is lettered in dark blue serif font on the forward fuselage, with the Singapore national flag placed immediately aft. The four-engine configuration beneath the swept wing is characteristic of the A340-500. Standard wingtips without winglets are present, consistent with the A340-500 specification. Engine nacelles are light grey.

The A340-500 is one of the rarest 1:200 wide-body subjects: Airbus delivered only 34 examples worldwide, and Singapore Airlines was the largest operator with five. This model of 9V-SGD documents one of the five aircraft that made daily transpacific nonstops commercially viable for the first time.
