1:200 Diecast: China Airlines Cargo Boeing 747-2R7F B-198 "China Airlines Cargo" (JC Wings XX20535)

B-198 carried MSN 22390, Line Number 482, originally built as a Boeing 747-2R7F and first delivered to Cargolux as LX-ECV in October 1980. China Airlines acquired the freighter in June 1985 and registered it B-198. The aircraft logged two entries in aviation history: on May 3, 1986, it was the subject of a hijacking incident, and on December 29, 1991, it was destroyed following a double engine separation over the Taiwan Strait during a cargo flight. At the time of the fatal accident, B-198 was six and a half years into its China Airlines service, approximately 11 years old.

Livery & Visual Detail

The model presents B-198 in the original China Airlines Cargo livery. The white fuselage carries a horizontal cheatline comprising a narrow red stripe above a narrower blue stripe, running from the nose to the tail where it sweeps upward. Chinese characters reading "中華航空公司" and "CHINA AIRLINES CARGO" appear in blue above the cheatline on the forward and aft fuselage. The vertical stabilizer is white with a Republic of China flag in the upper portion. Registration B-198 appears in black below the cockpit and again on the tail. The freighter configuration shows no passenger windows; four engine nacelles are light grey with dark intake rings. The model is displayed in flight attitude with landing gear retracted.

Model Craft & Collectibility

Cast in diecast metal to 1:200 scale by JC Wings, Item XX20535. The 747-200F fuselage mould captures the SCD (Side Cargo Door) configuration. At 35.33 cm in length and 29.82 cm wingspan, this is a large display piece representing one of the few 1:200 models of a specific historically documented China Airlines 747 freighter tail number. The Pratt & Whitney JT9D engine family powered the -2R7F variant.
