ZK-NNA, MSN 8496, is Air New Zealand's first Airbus A321neo (A321-271NX variant), delivered on 5 November 2018 from Airbus' Hamburg Finkenwerder facility — ferried XFW–MCT–KUL–CNS–AKL as NZ6091. ZK-NNA was the lead aircraft in Air New Zealand's initial order of 20 A320neo-family jets and arrived painted in the carrier's full-black "Silver Fern" livery, making it one of the few commercial aircraft in the world to enter service in an all-black scheme from day one of delivery. The aircraft operates domestic routes within New Zealand and Trans-Tasman services.

Livery & Visual Detail

The entire fuselage, tail fin, and horizontal stabilizers are matte black. "AIR NEW ZEALAND" is lettered in white on the upper forward fuselage. A large white silver fern kōwhaiwhai pattern extends across the mid-to-aft fuselage — the airline's primary visual identity mark. The registration "ZK-NNA" is printed in white near the tail. The vertical stabilizer carries the white Koru spiral logo near its top. Sharklets are black, matching the fuselage. Engine nacelles are white with a small red Koru logo. Landing gear struts are silver with black tyres; static configuration.

Model Craft & Collectibility

JC Wings issues this A321-271NX as item XX4081 in 1:400 scale diecast metal. The neo variant uses the A321neo-specific mould with Sharklet wingtips. All-black liveries present particular painting and masking challenges in diecast production; the white Koru and silver fern graphics on a pure black base make this a technically demanding release. ZK-NNA was the first A321neo for an Australasian carrier, adding a milestone-aircraft angle to the collectible.
