1:400 Diecast: SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A340-313X OY-KBM "Star Alliance" (JC Wings XX40642)

OY-KBM is Airbus A340-313X MSN 450, which completed its first flight on January 10, 2002, with test registration F-WWJD. Delivered to SAS Scandinavian Airlines shortly after, it carried a 247-seat configuration (40 business, 28 premium economy, 179 economy). The aircraft operated SAS's intercontinental routes from Copenhagen and Stockholm. OY-KBM wore the Star Alliance special scheme—one of several SAS A340s repainted for the alliance's global branding program.

Livery & Visual Details

The fuselage is clean white with "STAR ALLIANCE" in large black lettering across the upper fuselage, where "STAR" uses a distinctive dotted-outline font style. A small square SAS logo with white lettering appears below the cockpit, flanked by miniature Scandinavian flag icons (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish). The registration OY-KBM is printed aft on the lower fuselage. The vertical stabilizer is dark navy-blue with the Star Alliance star motif incorporating SAS's three-crown symbol. Engine nacelles are vivid red—SAS's trademark—with "Rolls-Royce" text visible on the cowling. Four CFM56-5C4 engines. Dark blue winglets. Landing gear extended, with the characteristic A340 four-bogie main gear arrangement visible.

Model Craft & Collectibility

JC Wings produced XX40642 with antenna detail included. The four-engine A340-300 mold at 1:400 captures the type's distinctive belly-mounted center-section gear. The Star Alliance livery on SAS hardware is a historically significant combination: SAS was a founding Star Alliance member in 1997, and fleet-wide alliance repaints on the A340 represent a defined era of network-airline branding. The quadjet type retired from most fleets, giving surviving models their historical ceiling.
