N298US is a Boeing 727-251 Advanced, MSN 22152, Line No. 1599, delivered to Northwest Airlines on 1 April 1980. The Advanced variant introduced improved Pratt & Whitney JT8D-17 engines and aerodynamic refinements for better fuel efficiency over the baseline 727-200. N298US operated in the Northwest Orient livery — the brand identity Northwest carried through its international expansion years before dropping "Orient" in the late 1980s. The aircraft was broken up at Roswell, New Mexico, in spring 2004 after roughly 24 years of service.
